Puffy Flower Coaster Free Pattern

This pattern is originally from HayHay crochet. I give full credits to her. I just made a few mods to make it puffy. Check out her original pattern and tutorial by clicking the link!

I’ve seen so many puffy coasters lately and I really wanted to make a flower version of it! It turned out so cute and stylish and you can also use it as a trinket dish :D I love making them so much I made quite a few of them!

Overall it's really easy to make however it might be more helpful to have visuals with some parts. I recommend you checking out my Youtube tutorial as well!

That being said I hope you enjoy making your puffy flower coaster :]

Materials:

double-stranded 4mm acrylic yarn in color off-white and green.
5mm crochet hook
Scissors
Poly fill
Stitch marker
Darning needle

Abbreviations:

mr = magic ring
ch = chain
inc = increase
dec = decrease
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
hdc inc = half double crochet increase
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
FO = fasten off

note: this pattern works with joined rounds, meaning sl st and ch1 after each round

Start with first color, I'm using off-white today :)

round 1: 6sc in mr, sl st into first stitch (6)

round 2: ch1, 6inc sl st into first stitch (12)

round 3: ch1, (sc, inc)*6 sl st into first stitch (18)

round 4: ch1, (sc, inc, sc)*6 sl st into first stitch (24)

round 5: ch1, (3sc, inc)*6 sl st into first stitch (30)

round 6: ch1, hdc all around (30)

~ Don’t sl st yet. Instead cut off white yarn and change to second color by slip stitching into the FRONT LOOP of the first stitch. It should look like something on the right picture after you joined the second color (in FLO) and made 1 chain.

round 7 in FLO: ch1, (sc, hdc, 5dc in one st, hdc, sc, sl st)*5 sl st into first stitch (50)

round 8: ch1, (sc, 3hdc, 3hdc in one st, 3hdc, sc, sl st)*5 sl st into first stitch (60)

round 9: ch1, (2sc, (hdc, hdc inc)*3 hdc, 2sc, sl st,)*5, sl st into first stitch (75)

FO and leave a long tail for sewing. You should be able to wrap the tail around the flower roughly around 3 times.

Now we need to repeat round 7 to 9 on the other side. You should have all back loops left, since you've made round 7 on the front loops only.

Turn your work, look for any back loop of a stitch where you've made 5dc on the other loop (I like to pick one closest to the sl st & ch1). Then count 2 times to the right, that should be the stitch where you need to join the 2nd color. That should also be the same stitch where you've made a single crochet on the other loop.

Now repeat round 7-9 on the other side. FO and you can leave a short tail for this side if the other part already has a long tail for sewing.

After that, it should look something like this! The next step is to sew these two parts together, and stuff them while sewing to make it nice and puffy

Before sewing, I like to share an optional step: make an invisible FO. I do this because I find myself always confused at the part where I need to skip the slip stitch at the end of round 9. It also gives a more seamless finish in my opinion. But if you don't have this problem and if you're not a noob like me, you can just skip this step.

Now we align the 2 parts together and start sewing the first petal. I like to sew both loops, in a whipstitch motion [left photo]. Before you finish each petal, please stop and stuff the petal firmly before you carry on to the next petal [right photo].

Continue sewing and stuffing the rest of the petals like this. Make sure to check regularly throughout if the two parts are properly aligned, you don't want them to be crooked.
