Tomato Pouch Free Pattern

Tomato Pouch Free Pattern

If you have a tomato obsession, this pattern is perfect for you!

This adorable tomato pouch is super easy and quick to make, and you only need to sew the stem! I love how the leaves of the stem are able to move freely, and the face and the little scratch adds such a cute touch :/

You can make two variants, one with a long strap or without and has a button in the back. If you don't want to make the long strap you'd have to skip the 'ch60' at the second panel, and follow the pattern as usual!

The stem and joining the panels might be tricky, so for visual guidance I have a beginner tutorial on Youtube which you can check out here ->

I hope you enjoy the pattern <3

Material list:

  • Medium sized yarn/5mm acrylic yarn in red and dark green
  • Yellow acrylic yarn (optional)
  • 4mm hook
  • Black felt
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Embroidery needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Button (optional)

  • mr = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • inc = increase
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

First panel

1. ch6, skip 2 chains, 3dc, 3dc in one st, turn your work, 3dc, 3dc in one st (12)

2. sl st and ch2, 12dc inc (24)

3. sl st and ch2, (dc, dc inc)*12 (36)

Sl st into first stitch, FO and hide tails

Second panel

Repeat round 1-3.

For round 4, if you don't want to make a strap (and sew a button on the back later on), ignore the ch60.

4. sl st and ch2, dc inc, 2dc, dc inc, dc, hdc, [sc, ch60, sc in the same st], sc, hdc, (dc inc, 2dc)*9 (48)

Sl st into first stitch, FO and hide tails

Stem

Make a slip knot

1. ch6, skip 1 chain, 2 sl st, [this will be the stem: sl st, ch3, 2hdc, sl st into the same stitch],

sl st, [this will be 1st leaf: sl st, ch7, skip one chain, 3sl st, 3sc, sl st into same chain],

sl st, [2nd leaf: sl st, ch6, skip one chain, 3sl st, 2sc, sl st into same chain],

sl st, [3rd leaf: sl st, ch7, skip one chain, 3sl st, 3sc, sl st into same chain], sl st

FO and leave a long tail for sewing. Sew the stem between round 3 and 4 at the top.

Joining the panels together

Mark the 4rd stitch and 14th stitch, counting from the beginning on round 4. Do this for both panels. Then place the good sides of the panels to each other, so with the wrong sides facing outwards. Start at the stitches where you've marked them, inserting your hook into the front loop of the front panel, and back loop into the back panel, and make 38 join stitches in total.

Turn the pouch inside out, and it should look something like this!

Adding the details

  • Cut out two eyes (around one stitch tall and one stitch wide), and a small strip for the mouth (around one stitch long). Glue them between round 2 and 3
  • With yellow yarn, sew a scratch on the head of the pouch
  • If you don't have a long strap, sew a button at the back of the pouch!
